Your StoryPOWER System

Everything you do inside Writers By Night HQ is building something.

You're building skills. Practices and routines. And your draft.
But you're also building something bigger.
You're building your StoryPOWER system — a complete creative framework designed around who you are as a writer.

This introduction gives you an overview of the StoryPOWER system and how to use it to build the foundation of your writing life.

Your Writer's Codebook

As you move through the StoryPOWER System, you'll build your Writer's Codebook — a living document that holds everything you discover about yourself as a writer. Your superpower, your origin story, your practice systems, your project insights. All in one place.

You'll reference it constantly — when you're choosing a project, when you're getting feedback, when you're stuck, when you're designing your practice.

Access your Writer's Codebook
The StoryPOWER Operations

Inside HQ, each StoryPOWER phase has an Operation: a mission-based course that guides you step-by-step to complete that phase's objective.

  • Operation: Code Name — Discover your creative identity. Your superpower, your origin story, your creative constellation, and the Code Name that ties it all together. This is the foundation everything else is built on. Start here.

  • Operation: Practice Protocol — Design your sustainable writing practice. Your Practice Pyramid, your HERO Practice sessions, your Craft Codex, and the systems that make writing a regular part of your real life.

  • Operation: Draft Directive — Take your story from idea to finished draft. Project development, planning, drafting, and revision — all filtered through your superpower and supported by the practice you've built.

For each Operation, you'll work through the missions by following along in your workbook. Each Operation has one workbook that contains all the missions.
You can access each Operation's workbook on the Operation Overview page (just click the Operation's name in the lefthand sidebar).
Then, click "Use Template" in the top right. This will make a copy of the workbook.
Bookmark this copy so you can return to it. We'll use the same workbook throughout the Operation.

 
Inside HQ

Every month in HQ brings Monthly Missions, new content additions to the library:

  • Week 1 — Craft Training. A focused lesson on one element of story craft.

  • Week 2 — Skills in Action. Either an example walkthrough showing craft on the page, or a hands-on workshop.

  • Week 3 — Practice Training. Mindset, practice systems, and tools to keep your writing life running.

  • Week 4 — Q&A Update. Your questions, answered. Could be a direct response, a walkthrough, or a new resource — depends on what the question needs. Past answers live in the Member Q&A in Command Center.

  • Badge Bonuses! Also, every month you'll get bonus content in each badge on your dashboard. These are fun surprise additions to the month's theme.

  • And the Analysis Annex is where we crack open published stories so you can see craft in action through superpower-informed breakdowns.

You don't have to engage with every piece every month. Take what serves you, skip what doesn't, come back to anything you missed whenever you want.

Meet Scribble

Scribble is a BatCat — part bat, part cat, all chaos.
He's the mascot of Writers By Night, and he shows up everywhere.

You'll see him in the community posting conversation starters, in his badge area with whatever he's cooked up this month, and as an AI tool inside HQ that can help you brainstorm, get unstuck, and think through your writing with your superpower in mind.

He's playful, he's opinionated, and he takes his job very seriously.
He loves being a writing sidekick. As you work through StoryPOWER, he'll help you think through the exercises. He might spot something you don't!

 
The HQ Community

The community is full of writers who get it — the late-night sessions, the day-job juggle, the "I only have twenty minutes but I'm going to make them count" life.

  • General Discussion — The main hub. Questions, conversations, ideas, whatever's on your mind.

  • Squad Formation — When you're ready to find your people for accountability, feedback, or just someone to write alongside. There's a pinned guide to help you find the right fit.

  • Writing Wins — The place to celebrate. Big or small, finished draft or finished paragraph. If it's a win, it goes here.

  • New Member Introductions — Say hello when you're ready. Tell us who you are, what you're working on, and what superpower you're rocking.
